Having the added benefit of studying the words for two full (holiday) weeks, Emily cruised through last week’s spelling words with a nice 100% on the Tuesday (early) edition of the test.  Of course being my daughter she had to mess with me a little bit on Tuesday, calling me at work to tell me that she only missed one word, so after consoling her and telling her that she would get them all right on Friday she laughed at me and said that she got an A+.  I’ll find a creative way of getting back at her.  For now I leave you with a love story to help Emily study this week’s words.  Enjoy!

Raging Cats and Dogs

Marie and Monty fought like cats and dogs because, well, Marie is a cat and Monty is a dog.

So Marie wiped away her tears and Monty covered his eyes so that she wouldn’t see him crying.  It was always like this, except this time they thought that they’d mapped out a way of talking that would be more pleasing, without all of the hissing and barking.  But Monty slipped up, quickly putting his hairy foot in his mouth when he questioned where Marie had traveled earlier in the day (forgetting that she had not gone anywhere, rather she had been napping in the sun since morning).

Monty came now seeking forgiveness, and he started this quest by first visiting with Marie’s sister Marcy, but it was a mixed reception as her family was not happy with his temper and questioning (they all secretly hoped that his owner would have Monty shipped to some faraway destination).  Soon things were a lot less icy and Marie was happy that Monty was making the effort, but all of that quickly ended when the folks next door started phoning the pound advising that a stray dog was wandering the neighborhood!  Soon the dog catchers were chasing Monty and they were able to nab him when one of them offered him a dog biscuit.  Smelling the treat, Monty was reminded of the time his owner took him hiking and gave him all the treats that he could handle.  He recalled eating with reckless abandon and the feeling of being wonderfully full…

Checking back with reality, Monty needed to escape his captors and now he saw that Marie had fainted, and having fallen off the porch, she landed in a giant laundry basket.

The situation was becoming comical.

Soon the dog catchers were bored with Monty and they turned a blind eye to him and he quickly wandered to the lovely Marie, who was now busy fixing her messed-up fur from the fall into the basket. Clearly, she didn’t require saving, especially by her clumsy boyfriend Monty, who just sat and stared at her with his puppy dog eyes.

Marie took one look at her adorable Monty and dropped all of her animosity.  Soon she was headed his way and Monty grinned nervously, which was very amusing to Marie, who was always entertained by her boyfriend’s antics, and she admitted to her friends that Monty was the most stunning puppy dog that she had ever seen.

But alas, there was no time for the two lovers now, as Monty was called home for dinner, and he was starving after all those thoughts about dog biscuits.

Their love would have to wait until tomorrow…
